I’m Christian, known as Larvitz in most corners of the internet. By day I’m a Senior Consultant at Red Hat; by conviction I’m a FreeBSD person, which makes for a certain amount of productive tension. This blog is where both halves write things down.
What this blog is
Long-form writeups of infrastructure I actually run: FreeBSD jails, my own Autonomous System (AS201379), BGP, ZFS, Ansible, identity management. Plus the occasional detour into cooking or Deutsche Bahn survival tactics, because a blog that’s 100% BGP would be a lie about who writes it.
Two things I promise. First: you’ll always get the why, not just the how. That means the rejected alternatives, the constraint that shaped the design, the evening of tcpdump it took to figure out. Second: it will never read like a vendor whitepaper. If a post can’t be serious about the engineering and relaxed about itself at the same time, it doesn’t ship.
Fair warning: the posts are long. There’s a table of contents and an “At a Glance” section for a reason.

Everything here is served by nginx in a FreeBSD jail, inside AS201379, from a rack I’m responsible for. When I write “I run this in production,” this page is part of that production. No cookies, no analytics, no third-party scripts.
